Judith has welcomed the decision by Translink to offer a railcard to students aged 24 and over. Judith had written to Translink following a compliant received from a constituent who while still being a student, found himself outside of the eligible age band of 16 - 23 for the student railcard. The new railcards will be available shortly from rail stations.
Judith said, "I am glad that Translink have now made the correct decision in providing railcards for students aged 24 and over.
"Considering the large amount of students who are not in the 16- 23 age band, it makes sense for these older students to be able to still avail of a rail card.
"We need to ensure that people of all ages are able to access further and higher education, and this includes providing benefits and opportunities to them that younger students can receive.
"I will continue to work with Translink to ensure that their ticketing policy is best placed to help different sections of our society."
